Immunotherapy

The immune system – the body’s defense against infections – can be a powerful weapon when it comes to defeating cancer. Unlike chemotherapy and radiation, which act directly on cancerous tumors, immunotherapy uses your own immune system to prevent, control, and eliminate different forms of cancer. Immunotherapy comes in a variety of forms, including targeted antibodies, cancer vaccines, adoptive cell transfer, tumor-infecting viruses, and more. Please call us to learn more about immunotherapy or any of our other cancer treatments.

Breast cancer screenings

Breast cancer forms in the cells of the breasts. Most cases occur in women. Although rare, it can develop in men. Symptoms of breast cancer can include breast discomfort, a lump in the breast and changes in shape or texture of the nipple, skin or breast.

Breast self exams can help maintain breast health and may help detect cancer early. They can help you identify changes in your breasts. Share your findings with your doctor. Follow the steps here to perform a breast self-exam. Ideally you should be doing a self-exam every month and should report any changes to your breast care provider.

It is also recommended that a physician examines your breasts to check for any abnormalities every one to three years starting at age 25.

The American Cancer Society recommends:

  • Women ages 40 to 44 can start annual mammograms if they wish to do so.
  • Women age 45 to 54 should have annual mammograms.
  • Women 55 and older can screen annually or every two years, if they wish.

Please consult with your breast care provider about screenings. You should also report any breast changes to your health care provider right away.

Lung cancer screening

At Hillcrest, we are prepared to address your lung cancer worries. Our Lung Centers offer a nurse navigator who can guide you through a lung cancer screening. First, patients should click here to determine if they are a candidate for a lung cancer screening. This website will also provide other details of your potential screening, including how much it will cost and whether your insurance will cover it.

To schedule a lung cancer diagnostic test or other pulmonary screenings, please obtain a referral from your primary care provider. We also offer self-referrals for patients who meet the criteria for a lung cancer screening.

Gynecological cancer care

Over 80,000 times per year, a woman in the United States is diagnosed with gynecologic cancer, and about 26,000 women will die this year as a result. Gynecologic oncology is a medical specialty that deals with the study and treatment of malignancies arising in the female reproductive tract.

The ovary, endometrium, cervix, vulva, and vagina are where the most common and serious gynecological malignancies occur. Gynecologic oncologists are cancer specialists trained in the biology and pathology of gynecologic cancers. Whether you’ve just received a cancer diagnosis or have come into remission, our oncologists will ensure continuous patient care tailored to your individual needs.
