Breast imaging at the Leta M. Chapman Breast Center

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women, according to the American Cancer Society. That’s why our breast health specialists use the most technologically-advanced breast imaging services, such as 3D mammography, to ensure accurate screenings for women of all ages.  We offer the following breast imaging services at the Leta M. Chapman Breast Center:

  • 3D mammography
  • Breast MRI
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Stereotactic (x-ray-guided) breast biopsy
  • Ultrasound-guided breast biopsy

Performing regular breast self-exams is also important for maintaining breast health and may aid in the early detection of cancer. These exams can help you identify changes in your breasts, and it is crucial to share your findings with your doctor. To perform a breast self-exam, follow these steps once a month and report any changes to your breast care provider.

3D mammography

Did you know that 75% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history or are not considered high risk? Standard mammography can miss up to 50 percent of cancers present in women with dense breasts. 3D mammography is the most advanced technology in breast cancer detection and is now available is now available at multiple Hillcrest locations.

Also known as digital breast tomosynthesis, 3D mammography is superior at detecting invasive breast tumors as well as tumors located in dense breast tissue. 3D technology takes a series of images and generates a three-dimensional picture that is much clearer than two-dimensional images allowing physicians to detect cancers sooner and more accurately. 3D mammograms use similar equipment and procedures as traditional 2D mammograms and have no additional risk to patients compared with traditional mammograms.

No referral is necessary for screening and most insurances now cover 3D mammography exams. For patients whose insurance does not cover 3D technology, the added costs beyond traditional mammograms can still be affordable. Be sure to check with your insurance for coverage rates.

Please call the Leta M. Chapman Breast Center at 918-579-8083 to schedule your mammogram
