Pulmonary function testing and lung screenings

The purpose of a pulmonary function test is to determine the presence of lung disease in an individual, help provide measurements on the severity of lung disease, and also measure the body’s response to current therapy. A PFT can evaluate symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. It can also monitor lung function and toxicity due to the use of medication Amiodarone that treats heart arrhythmia.
The results of these tests can be used to diagnose lung conditions or diseases such as asthma, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis. They can also be used in the diagnosis of environmental and occupational lung diseases such as asbestosis, interstitial lung disease, mesothelioma, and silicosis.
