About Heather Ayers, APRN-CNP
Heather Ayers, APRN-CNP, specializes in wound care at Hillcrest Medical Center (HMC).
Heather’s journey into healthcare began in 2007 as a registered nurse (RN) at HMC. Since then, she has gained experience working with the infection prevention team, the CVICU, the burn unit, and in the operating room. She has spent the past five years in wound care as a registered nurse and now continues in the same clinic as a nurse practitioner.
“I enjoy seeing the wound healing process and the progress that our patients make,” said Heather. “I like that we get to know our patients in the outpatient clinic and be a part of their lives.”
When it comes to building new connections, Heather makes an effort to listen and find strategies for wound healing that best fit patients' lives. She notes that new patients are sometimes surprised to learn that weekly appointments may be required until their wound heals.
Heather’s reminder to those needing wound care is, “Your body is doing the healing. It is important to give your body what it needs and to make all your appointments.”
When Heather isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her son, family, friends, traveling, reading fiction, and riding horses.
