Cancer Care

Barbara W.

It was the trained eye of a Hillcrest Hospital Claremore radiologist that spotted the tumor in Barbara’s mammogram. It took the expertise of the entire oncology team to remove the tumor. And, it was the combined dedication of the compassionate staff at Hillcrest Hospital Claremore that allows Barbara to be a six-year cancer survivor. Knowing that it was the screening that saved her life, she reminds everyone to get tested. She also feels strongly about the exceptional care she received at Hillcrest Hospital Claremore.

Shannon H.

An incidental touch while dressing was Shannon’s first indication that something wasn’t right. A visit to the doctor diagnosed her with invasive ductal breast cancer. The oncology team at Hillcrest Medical Center offered straightforward information – and hope. A bi-lateral mastectomy and an intense year of chemotherapy eliminated the cancer, but not Shannon’s enthusiasm for life. She now shares the importance of early detection with everyone she meets, making the most of every opportunity to turn a negative into a positive.

Michelle B.

Michelle was surprised to learn the small lump in her breast was cancerous and required a full mastectomy. Because of her diagnosis, she required another 20 weeks of chemotherapy treatment after her cancer spread to her lymph nodes. With the help of her Hillcrest team, she was able to keep a positive attitude. “Sometimes you just have to smile and make the best of it. There’s a good reason it’s called ‘the present’ - because life itself is a present.” Cancer-free today, Michelle now volunteers at Hillcrest, sharing her remarkable story and encouraging others.

Julie H.

Julie’s colon screening turned out to be anything but routine, revealing she had stage three colorectal cancer. She called Utica Park Clinic Medical Oncology, and they immediately started a plan which began with surgery then appropriate follow-up care. The constant communication and compassion from the Utica Park Clinic and Hillcrest team of multi-specialty physicians and staff helped Julie get through her fight. She’ll quickly tell you, "They were WONDERFUL! They gave me my life back."
