Shay Surowiak, APRN-CNP, practices internal medicine. She has worked in the health care industry since 2001. Ms. Surowiak chose this career path because it allows her to care for people who are in need. “I was originally drawn to medicine because I have a passion for helping others,” she said.
Ms. Surowiak has nursing experience in critical care, hospice, pediatrics, internal medicine and informatics. She believes a person should be treated as a whole. “Optimal health can only be achieved when all aspects - including physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural and environmental - are addressed,” she said.
Prior to joining Utica Park Clinic, Ms. Surowiak worked at Precision Internal Medicine in Muskogee. She also spent eight years working on various quality improvement projects utilizing electronic health record (EHR) technology to promote quality patient care and decrease health care expenditures. Ms. Surowiak has consulted physician practices on the use of EHR systems to reduce opioid use and improve patient outcomes.
Ms. Surowiak received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah in 2008. She earned a Master of Science degree in nursing at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana in 2016.
