Specialty

General Surgery

Damon Armstrong, D.O., is board certified in general surgery. He has been in health care since 2006. “Each patient is personally and biologically unique,” he said. “I believe that no two surgical situations or scenarios are the same. This is why it is important as a surgeon to have not only sound fundamentals of surgical knowledge, but also a keen ability to incorporate a degree of artistry and creativity while operating. Knowledge, skill and artistry are essential to sound surgery and are imperative for optimal outcomes.”

Dr. Armstrong chose a career in health care because it combined two things he was passionate about. “For as long as I can remember, I have had an interest in the biological sciences,” he said. “Additionally, I desire an occupation that allows me to serve and help people. Being a physician was the perfect marriage of both interests. I have always been drawn to identifying a problem and finding a solution to yield the desired outcome. The specialty of surgery fits this paradigm perfectly.”

Dr. Armstrong encourages patients to make exercising and diet a priority. “At a most fundamental level, being active is integral,” he said. “Equally important is creating and maintaining a well-balanced diet that provides the essential nutrition to support and encourage optimal biochemical and physiological functioning and, in the case of surgery, optimal and expedient wound healing.”

Dr. Armstrong is a natural leader and enjoys teaching the next generation of physicians. He has been an assistant professor of surgery at the Uniformed Services University since 2017.

Dr. Armstrong received a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California in 1997. He earned a medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California in 2006. He completed an internship at Downey Regional Medical Center in Downey, California in 2007. He served as a battalion surgeon and assistant battalion surgeon for two deployments while in the United States Navy from 2007 to 2010. He completed a general surgery residency at Oklahoma State University Medical Center in 2015. Following residency, Dr. Armstrong served as an active-duty general surgeon in the Navy, helping to care for active duty service members, dependent family members and veteran service members in a surgical capacity. Additionally, prior to joining Utica Park Clinic, Dr. Armstrong worked at Integris Bass Baptist Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma.
